CAP Officers are proud to serve downtown Birmingham
CAP is City Action Partnership, a nonprofit organization enabled by state legislation and city ordinance to provide services in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. Since 1995, CAP has worked in partnership with government, businesses, residents, and particularly, the Birmingham Police Department, to improve safety and perception of safety to those who work, live, or visit the heart of the city. During that time, crime has been reduced by 70% because of the hard work done by this collection of people working together. It has made the downtown area one of, if not, the safest section of the entire Birmingham metro area.
The CAP Officers are recognizable because of their red shirts and black pants as they patrol on bicycles and in vehicles with green LED lights, adding an element of security and friendliness to the downtown area. They give advice and directions, jump dead batteries, help with flat tires, provide safe escorts, and rescue keys from locked vehicles. Services are free of charge, as our nonprofit is supported by the property owners inside the district.
