Whenever there is a large hurricane in the Gulf and you want to volunteer in the Birmingham shelters go to www.handsonbirmingham.org and look under Special Events to see what volunteer opportunity might be available for you.
Volunteers will be needed in the gulf coast area for a long time. Please let us know if you have a group going down or if you have a group that needs to know where to go. We can help keep the Birmingham Community posted if you will send us your activites and/or plans. Imagine how prepared we can be if disaster comes our way again.
We are currently supporting the bayou areas of LA which were badly flooded with Gustav and Ike! Please see our needs list and contact me if your group wants a project or if you want to volunteer with us here in Birmingham! capbham@aol.com.
Thanks for all you do. Laura
CAP Hurricane Relief
When Hurricane Katrina hit the coast, CAP (City Action Partnership) mobilized to coordinate donations for evacuees at the Civic Center. With the tremendous outpouring from the Birmingham community, CAP began coordinating shipments to the coastal areas. We continue to be a link between the Birmingham Community and the coastal relief effort and have become part of the nationwide grassroots relief effort.
